A new day a new haiku
Leaves gather sunlight
And convert it into wood
Curious magic
The years come and go
You watch as the seasons change
Is there a pattern?
We all look elder
If the mountain turned to ash
Wood yew pine fir me?
Lurid lush lime leaves
Freshly torn by a spring breeze
What is this disease?
Hidden in treetops
There’s another world to find
If you just look up
Early morning walks
Remind us that in the end
Everything changes
Clouds cast a shadow
Over who I thought I was
I try to see good
Goodbye my old friend
When I next see you again
May your boughs be green
Out of the darkness
The bleak silence of winter
New life emerges
Broken limbs hang low
Drag me down below, I drown
Searching for my crown
A fallen hero
In death and decay, you are
Still home to thousands
Rusty lichen points
Towards the shady cold North
An ancient compass
Between capped mineshafts
We crept down the eerie dale
Our captors pursue
Buried by branches
Blinded by brighter birch bones
Between broken briar
Once I was alive
Now we live in photographs
Vicariously
In a sea of red
My blood has been shed, slowly
I return to dust
Deep below the groundThe sap is starting to riseThere is always hope
You were here before
My parents were born; you will
Outlive my children
Turn to face the sun
Brisk evening light glows stronger
Longer shadows grow
I twist and I turn
Too soon I will burn, you will
Rise from the ashes
When I’m out of doors
Even in damp drizzly rain
I can taste freedom
Weight me down, way down
Anchors hold me hard and fast
Deep down in the lake
Just cross the water
A whole other universe
Alas I cannot
Trees can’t move their roots
They grow where they were planted
But they can still grow
