A new day a new haiku
Follow me down here
Between the weeping birch trees
Slip into the lake
Reckless abandon
Into the sunset she runs
The adventurer
The road ahead looks
The same as the path behind
When you reach the end
You cannot pause life
Or wait for all the answers
There’s no solution
Let me follow you
Around the lake. Help me to see
The world with new eyes
One day all must fall
Released to the stoney ground
Finally we’re free
I won’t hold you back
But I’ll be here. I hope you
Don’t let go of me
We cut, carve and climb
Train and trim: bend, burn and break
What do trees demand?
The days still shorten
In the shrinking horizon
So we must press on
The slow silent creep
In wiry tendrils entwined
Bramblers always win
These fleeting moments
Impossible to capture
Like hunting for ghosts
Hazy halos hang
Between bare brackish branches
Murky mists make myths
And what will remain
Of the things we do and say
In a thousand years?
When all you have left
Are memories, cling on tight
Never let them go
Old questions expel
From every crook and nanny
Derelict puzzles
Some days slowly slide
Into dreams from somewhere else
Gently slip away
Through our father’s fields
We will follow every path
Crooked and oblique
Suffocating fug
Creeping between chinks and cracks
I seal myself in
When the scythe comes down
And severs the world in two
Time himself stands still
Four walls and a roof
A solid comfortable trap
Adventure awaits
Hope dawns unbidden
With a blue moon exigent
So I try again
Rip this land in two
So there is nothing to miss
When you’re tearing past
If you keep moving
You can stay out in the cold
Indefinitely
Float away downstream
Carried in gentle currents
My eyelids closing
