A new day a new haiku
Can an earwig hear?
How much room do fungi need?
What grows from acorn?
Lazy gulls grazing
Across newly furrowed fields
But where do they roost?
The light has faded
The leaves give up their glory
To find a new life
Grey clouds no longer
As the evening sky gives way
I count every day
We can’t choose our road
But we can always control
The way we walk it
There’s bread in the hedge
Berries burst from the edges
Autumn’s solemn pledge
If I ever thought
I might have found my own way
I am lost again
There’s no direct road
Goals create disappointment
Take the long way home
I don’t know the way
To get where I want to go
I’ll take any road
Or maybe my reach
Will always exceed my grasp
Let me down gently
Down this cul-de-sac
I don’t know the way back home
I follow the crows
Above the stubble
Soaring silently swooping
Keep my own council
Don’t expect conkers
From a sweeter chestnut tree
Or patience from me
Don’t know where to go
I want to take every road
This is mine alone
The world hurries on
Making progress, going long
I am not enough
High up in the pines
Where the tawny owl’s eyes shine
Find a place to hide
Hide me in the leaves
Tuck me in among the trees
Help me to find peace
September sunshine
Surprising me warm and bright
Our wings’ final stretch
Stack my sunlight store
An animal sanctuary
Tall towers topple
Clear skies, shadows rise
Following the starling cries
To where the cloud lies
Help me build my nest
Help me find a place to rest
Help me try my best
This road never ends
There’s another horizon
You must choose a fork
What draws us to dark
Curious reflections or
The mirror within
Trees cannot be moved
They can only grow upward
Towards the sunlight
