A new day a new haiku
Remember warm seas
Hot sun, white sand, humid breeze
Doing as we please
Washed up on the beach
Rolled and twisted by blue waves
Leave me in my shell
Stumble through the maze
Winding tunnels through dark caves
Then carried away
Beneath rolling waves
Each shape and pattern mirrored
In our clouded eyes
Indigo highlights
Held up by floating pillars
And the wind picks up
A song must be sung
It can only exist in
The breath of singers
Let your roots run deep
Burrow between rock and stone
All our temples fall
I’ll shadow the moon
I will go out with the tide
I’ll set with the sun
Elder doorframes creak
Ivy creeps and then reclaims
This house stole her name
A buzzard circles
Crossing hedges and fences
His scavenging ground
Seasons change again
Keep climbing the same mountain
Then rolling back down
My fruit is bitter
All seed and no juicy flesh
Feed me to the birds
A final flourish
Before we fall to the ground
And go round again
In the grass I’m lost
In the middle of nowhere
Trapped in amber seas
Let new ideas grow
We can’t all be the tallest
But we all can glow
A breath moves each leaf
Revealing forgotten sprites
That hide in the woods
I reached my limit
I cannot be anything
Except my own self
What parts of me must
Fall away and grow again?
Can I be reborn?
‘Cross forest and field
Into valley, gorge and dale
Untamed I explore
Hungry earthworms wait
For the autumn feast to fall
In loamy dirtness
By hedges confined
In field or forest I find
The edges a bind
No one ever feels
There is nothing to be feared
November is here
Bury my with leaves
I will hibernate til spring
Somewhere warm and dry
If little people
Found a mushroom towering tall
Would they worship it?
