A new day a new haiku
Shoots rise from the clay
Roots muddled up in a maze
Fruit swells in the shade
Time cannot be caught
Begged, borrowed, stolen or bought
Nor can time be wrought
A giant mirror
A web of sun catching grass
Fire brings light brings life
Rising smoke columns
Signal warmth and hearth and home
A dubious guide
The pigeon skies fade
Their smouldering edge crumbles
Into ashen grey
The water breaks up
Scatters the left over sun
And I am lighter
If I could stay true
To who I have always been
What else would I do?
Though we bid farewell
To the days we left behind
They go ever on
We shine in the sun
August days are almost done
And we all had fun
Black bumble bees buzz
Heedless of reason or rhyme
Mindless meander
Concentrated light
As troubled waves crash and churn
Distilled into song
The searing sun sinks
Back down into the cool sea
Waters cover me
Under cool water
We escape the beating heat
Our cares wash away
The raging waves crash
Close to death we feel alive
The sea walls break down
Summer dying down
Back to Autumn’s golden hues
She will rise again
The harvest is done
The fields have been opened up
I can roam freely
Draw me in towards
The hypnotic coloured lights
Music is alive
A warning buzzard
Ruling over his kingdom
With sharp wings and claws
Come and hear me play
You will receive a free stone
Hand-painted with love
Battle, barge bash, break
Through scabious and hardheads
Scratched serrated skin stings
Lock these days away
Keep them safely in your mind
For when winter comes
Cloud shadows droop down
And close your rusty pupil
My cold shoulders turn
Try to hold it in
The palm of your outstretched hand
But it slips away
Trees don’t fight routine
Each year they follow the sun
So why do I itch?
