A new day a new haiku
The rain ever falls
Mixing with sunlight and air
And green overflows
The verdant summer
Is starting to give way to
Faded autumn hues
Lost in the long grass
Hedgehogs and meadow withies
Trundle through the brush
Nobody wants you
But still you get everywhere
Much maligned cushag
The evening breaks up
In a thousand splintered clouds
We too turn to dust
The dreaded mirror
Exposing my every flaw
Things I can’t ignore
Walking the thin line
Between beauty and broken
Where the best songs hide
Shelter of past years
Wrap your bare limbs around me
You are still safety
Under bright storm clouds
Drinking up fragrant nectar
To quench my self doubt
Magnificent sun
We are nothing to your strength
Give us perspective
Rust can’t touch these hands
Dust already covers me
I curl up and sleep
Humming overhead
Honey bees swarm with unrest
Seeking their next nest
What makes a good day?
Clear skies, sunshine, exercise
Good work, music, cake
I will play with you
I will hunt and search for time
While you still want me
Tucked in to the hills
Grasses shimmer and ripple
Betraying the wind
We are together
Each stalk rests on another
For we are brothers
Deep in swampy slime
Stagnant waters churn and roil
Queazy, uneasy
Before you know it
Curled up tight in fading light
And the day is done
What would it take to
Make you feel like you belong?
Should you leave this road?
There’s a roof to find
And someone riding a bike
Hidden in the grass
Calling corvids crow
Catch carious carrion
Cacophonously
What was once precious
Now crumbles down to the ground
Memory salvage
I want to belong
To the forest, to the fields
To the universe
Meandering back
To the long meadow grasses
Where time too stands still
