A new day a new haiku
Are you still watching
With childish fascination
As the sun descends?
We left all our years
A gleaming reflection of
The years we have left
What else is hiding
Beneath the murky waters?
Do I dare go in?
Forbidden waters
The strongest current that will
Draw me deeper in
How long until these
Imposing monstrosities
Are national treasures?
Left alone up here
Battered by wind and rain
Tumble down again
Tree lined avenues
Would you start something that you
Will not see complete?
Still still sea waters
Stretching out from shore to shore
In silent reaches
These beaming beech leaves
Translate the wind’s silent voice
Into prying cries
Smoky clouds rising
From the glowing forest line
A fire light mirage
Mineral veins flow
In the heart of the mountain
Metallic life blood
What lurks in these depths?
Who dares to cross this shadow?
How can we escape?
A shaft of sunlight
A mountain turned inside out
A thought, a challenge
The castle still stands
How many suns have settled
Behind it’s towers?
In this burning heat
Slip into the glassy sea
And wash my mind clear
As the heat recedes
We are drawn towards the lake
A quiet ending
Swinging from the tree
Shady seat in scorching heat
My office today
Keep these summer days
Trapped in amber, cast in gold
Never let them go
Spray sizzles scorched soil
Sweltering into puddles
Soak in the summer
Am I the whisper?
The murmur in the darkness?
A wolf in the night?
Golden harvest notes
Float and fade across the fields
We must keep playing
The river carries
All of my troubles away
And takes me with them
Everywhere the eyes
Do I meet expectations?
Wilt in the limelight
Dry and dusty straw
Folded into golden bricks
Who could ask for more?
