Thick cloud surrounded
The last few scraps of woodland
As the sun went down
A new day a new haiku
Thick cloud surrounded
The last few scraps of woodland
As the sun went down
Oil and vinegar
Autumn, twilight, shoreline, dreams
Syrup and bacon
Murky marsh muddle
Stumble around the middle
Dragonflies meddle
Across marsh and moor
Intrepid explorers roam
In Wellington boots
Behind fake smiles
Complicated feelings hide
We keep them inside
Violent violet veins
Violate vile vapour trails
Divide the sunset
I’m trampled over
The surplus, washed up, beach junk
Let the tide take me
Broken flags languish
At the water’s dark edges
Wild cat tails pounce
Ideas are sketches
If you draw a thousand lines
One will be just right
I have lost myself
A piece buried deep inside
Suddenly missing
Isolating rain
Beats against my window pane
Wash me down the drain
Through the beating rain
The dogs snapping at our heels
We ran to the dark
Slate slabs standing strong
Against wind and waves and tide
Until the land slides
In the dawn chorus
At the first light of the day
In a sleepy daze
Inside Merlin’s cave
Under an ancient ruin
Where two oceans meet
Rolling white horses
Dash themselves against the rocks
Dissolve in the spray
Furry willow buds
Prick up at the dawn chorus
Silky rabbit ears
Though his white fingers
Strangle the new Daffodils
Frost won’t defeat spring
Shedding my old skins
Pack my life into boxes
Setting myself free
Halfway up the hill
Look across the canopy
The trees are brothers
Another day ends
I wonder what I achieved
Only this haiku
Knee deep in cold mud
We tramp across empty fields
To the hanging tree
Blossom blooming from
The overgrown undergrowth
Seasons steady march
Loping slowly south
Long grey wings ripple and shake
Lonely heron hunts
