Longing to belong
But the gaping space between
Cannot be straddled
A new day a new haiku
Longing to belong
But the gaping space between
Cannot be straddled
Every single drop
Squeezed out, wrung up and mangled
Dried and fading fast
Pack away your life
Into these cardboard boxes
On the move again
Whatever I try
I can’t do this on my own
We are the forest
Untended and wild
Life goes on without us, yet
Better together
Slowly trees creep in
Taking over the grazed field
Wilderness returns
Desolate, dormant
This earth, this ground, this same land
Neglected, waiting
Just a house of cards
Tumbling down to the ground
Inevitable
Keep you locked away
Don’t let you come out to play
This is where you’ll stay
Between wake and sleep
Drifting at the edge of dreams
In half light limbo
A fork in the road
Dividing my possessions
Where do I call home?
Tectonic plates slide
The earth quakes and then divides
Find a place to hide
The work of my hands
The labour and toil of days
Has come to nothing
Anything could hide
In the groaning gloomy room
Behind that closed door
Today is your life
What are you waiting for?
Right here and right now
Gusts creep towards us
In the shadowy surface
Of the dark waters
The rigging, the ropes
The sails, the wind, the tiller
All holding steady
Red sun slips away
Squirrels slowly turning grey
Werewolves come to play
Red bricks green with moss
Slowly returning to clay
They will outlast us
On the quiet chase
Between unwanted pine trees
Regeneration
Making decisions
Gives you more freedom than not
Making decisions
Sitting on a cliff
Watching distant passing ships
Moonlit clouds adrift
These tall ever greens
Strong and bold, grey and old, trees
Overshadow me
Under dark damp earth
Still gathering momentum
Summer is waiting
