A new day a new haiku
Have we stumbled on
A ring of fairy champions
Or a fool’s funnel?
How do such spiky
Sharp spines transform into soft
Silky thistle down
A quiet evening
Watching the world pass us by
Ripples in a pool
As a new leaf turns
My year to obscurity
Together we’ll fade
Stuck in the quagmire
Still slowly sinking ourselves
In our stinking swamp
Can you grasp a day?
Sand slipping though your fingers
A final sunset
Big black clouds brewing
Layers of every shade of sky
Steely storm stewing
In silver shadows
Racing raging rushing waves
Just let yourself go
With patience and pluck
These small scrappy strips of land
Can be a garden
Standing statue still
On a sill as we roll as
A rock to the sea
In the greasy gloom
Tin can rust and plastic bags
We are the virus
Silently he preys
Scouring the secret valley
Suddenly he swoops
Darker depths to sound
Hidden in a weedy shroud
Waiting to be found
Lost in tangled roots
In and out of twisted trunks
Meet me in the maze
Fragrant fern fronds fade
Folded, furled, furry fractals
Freedom forgotten
If all living things
Support the needs of others
No one ever falls
Have not idle hands
Life’s greatest pleasures are in
The joy of doing
Old red sandstone and
Carboniferous limestone
Tumble down on me
Everything decays
Worn away by wind and rain
Unstoppable change
We can see behind
But we cannot see ahead
Into the unknown
England’s future king
Landed in this hidden bay
And marched for the crown
We’re all living in
Our children’s history lesson
Make it interesting
Make the time to play
Don’t let the days drift away
Take action today
Molten sunlight poured
A moment trapped in amber
Glitter in the gloom
