A new day a new haiku
If we lived in trees
We wouldn’t cut them all down
Don’t give up, be kind
We built this tree nest
Using only sticks and string
Total cost, zero
We could make our homes
In the arms of our brothers’
Leafy canopy
Those secret creatures
Hidden in the undergrowth
Seen only in death
From cold talons’ grasp
A breakfast interrupted
The forest floor burns
Standing in the shade
What are we trying to save?
Will anything change?
The days match the nights
Relinquishing to winter
They won’t be all dark
I’m rusting away
Crumble to dust and ashes
Make me new again
Copper cattail down
In the marshy bog. Long nights
Will outgrow the days
Brisk morning breezes
Bring the brief summer back once
Melting in the clouds
Sun shines straight through us
But in the silver moonlight
Silent wings shimmer
Carry us away
Between your fierce tawny wings
We’re invisible
I have never flown
Never sailed or swooped or soarn
I watch from below
The road is longer
Than expected. We balance
Precariously
If I could be half
Of what you want me to be
I’d be twice myself
Old crow, can you change?
Do all the days feel the same?
Why are you afraid?
Although it feels wrong
We will still sing together
In isolation
New album out now. scruffian.com
Are you aware wolf?
Beware of what you wear wolf
You wear me down wolf
As winter creeps in
Those who can, flee her clutches
Change comes to the rest
Running everywhere
Take me somewhere, anywhere
Going nowhere fast
Seasons recurring
The world outside keeps turning
My bones keep yearning
Pale mist rising up
My eyelids flutter open
Was it just a dream?
Now I am land locked
Shuttered in and tied up tight
Water is freedom
Though the water’s rough
We don’t need all of this stuff
The sea is enough
