A new day a new haiku
Why can’t I just hide?
Find a hole and crawl inside
Silence be my guide
You can’t just plant trees
To try to fix this wreckage
We will not be fooled
Hope is dangerous
Hope is for the fearless brave
Do I dare to hope?
Daylight drains away
The world swallowed by twilight
Only I remain
This is nowhere land
Everyone has gone away
I’m a nowhere man
Minds cannot be changed
They can only change themselves
What makes them want to?
Again I forget
What am I doing this for?
Answers escape me
Water on my back
Master of self sabotage
Knowledge drives a wedge
Master of the skies
Devises lies, denies bribes
Master of disguise
Slowly chip away
Step by step and brick by brick
Just never give up
As the years roll by
Now I am flipped upside down
Me replaced by we
Through this weathered skin
Winding on our weary way
To where we begin
Hold it together
Tarnished by the evening sun
Holding us apart
What is life made of?
How does a garden still grow?
Is this my last breath?
Rivers and canals
Could take us from coast to coast
But we’re too busy
How long must we wait?
Have we outgrown this old shell?
When will we be free?
Silently we glode
Between restless river banks
Softly glid back home
Every river has
One single driving purpose
To get to the sea
I’m worth more than gold
I cannot be bought or sold
I never grow old
I am up a tree
I am in the setting sun
I make you feel free
I have many names
Everyone wants to be me
But no one knows how
Slip through the culvert
Let the current carry you
And your cares away
Gnarled and twisted bones
Creeping out from mists below
Gloating in the gloam
How soon I forget
To look beyond my own stance
So hopelessly flawed
