A new day a new haiku
As the heat recedes
We are drawn towards the lake
A quiet ending
Swinging from the tree
Shady seat in scorching heat
My office today
Keep these summer days
Trapped in amber, cast in gold
Never let them go
Spray sizzles scorched soil
Sweltering into puddles
Soak in the summer
Am I the whisper?
The murmur in the darkness?
A wolf in the night?
Golden harvest notes
Float and fade across the fields
We must keep playing
The river carries
All of my troubles away
And takes me with them
Everywhere the eyes
Do I meet expectations?
Wilt in the limelight
Dry and dusty straw
Folded into golden bricks
Who could ask for more?
There’s gold in this field
And treasure you cannot hoard
Work, it’s own reward
From thorns and thistles
In the sweat of our faces
We eat daily bread
Search for common ground
High above the stars look down
On the space we found
Invisible lines
Stretch across the wilderness
Disconnecting us
Scarred silver skies shine
Sinking sunlight steels my mind
Set my sights to sea
If I close my eyes
Will the world still be out there?
It’s inside my mind
An abandoned egg
Precariously balanced
Left out in the cold
What am I saying
Without words? Without meaning
Who am I being?
Within my own mind
Incompatible ideas
Reside, side by side
Wavy seas of grass
Their heavy heads sway and bend
Hazy seeds of brass
In twisted spirals
I weave a wonky burrow
Leave a winking hole
Shiny silver eye
Shining down inside my hide
There is always hope
Hanging from a branch
Complete, unending and whole
Until the winds blow
Conjoined tree trunks twine
Still undivided in death
Inseparable love
So I lay down bored
Floored by tongue in groove antics
I think we nailed it
