A new day a new haiku
White spray on black thorn
Poison spiked cotton wool brain
Just another cold
They might be common
They might only last a week
Do we love them less?
When this storm has passed
A new light will break through and
Fill our leaves with hope
Clear blue empty skies
Black emptiness in my soul
A perfect mirror
This beautiful cage
We never want to leave here
Until we’re locked in
Goodbye my old friend
When I next see you again
May your boughs be green
Where our fathers rest
The daffodils will return
As they always do
Our winter coats fade
Into this gloomy thicket
Until we vanish
A trace in the dirt
Silently stalk our quarry
Through the scrubby heath
Muted blossom shades
Bring a hesitant hope to
These gloomy spring days
Tossed to the road side
Another casualty of
My impatient life
A match to tinder
And the sky catches alight
As I turn westward
Sun always rises
Regardless of our problems
Nature carries on
What desolation
Will this virus leave behind?
Will we fly again?
Plucky plush posies
Pastel pink primroses poised
Posing prettily
If I close my eyes
Then I never have to choose
Only players lose
Brambles creeping in
Old lanes become green and wild
While we hide inside
The sun never stops
Sand slips between my fingers
Cuckoos call again
The scent of springtime
Infuses the morning light
With quiet birdsong
Stare into the pool
Soaking in your own beauty
As it slowly fades
Only now I know
Lift me up from down below
I will take it slow
Heather crowded out
By brambling bracken and birch
Dark history exhumed
Out of the darkness
The bleak silence of winter
New life emerges
Broken limbs hang low
Drag me down below, I drown
Searching for my crown
