A new day a new haiku
Buckle, bend and break
Beneath the branches burden
A bar for my back
If only change were
As simple as curling up
And emerging new
Rising above all
There’s peace and tranquility
In your ancient boughs
As a breeze drifting
In and out and in-between
A voice calling me
Every leaf and branch
Must grow out of the same trunk
Though each is unique
Molten sunlight sinks
Into the alchemist’s swamp
Alder to iron
From among the reeds
I hear your click clacking call
Hardly to be seen
We weave windy ways
Where wispy willows whisper
Washed with white water
As seasons unfurl
Remind us of years before
Each slightly different
A hum and a buzz
Bumbling is what she does
Legs covered in fuzz
We should never stop
Marvelling encouragement
At small achievements
Each successful slice
Surrenders strange sounds and smells
Such satisfaction
Whatever happened
To our long summer evenings?
Now it’s just black sky
Which will you go for?
Will you take the easy road
Or the one less walked?
Slip through my fingers
Twilight days. I will see you
On the other side
How many more years
Will you spread your canopy?
Take me to the sea
We huddle inside
Watching rain on the window
Another storm brews
So loosen the ropes
A solitary drifter on
The deep bluebell sea
New ideas bursting
With hope and expectation
Can you catch a star?
The sun gently falls
Oblivious, a fox trots
Through the dandelions
Only an old stone
Shrouded in years of tired moss
Going nowhere now
I could spread my wings
If it wasn’t for this cage
I could fly away
Each tree looks the same
Every bird sings the same song
‘Til you learn their ways
Lie in the long grass
Supported by sharp green blades
A premonition
