A new day a new haiku
I grab at the days
Wildly grasping the thin air
As they drift away
This twisted oak tree
Dragging out its dying years
Will still out-live me
Just another boy
Blend into the background noise
Wait for the decoy
In our different ways
Tracking through the barley maze
Lost in a blue haze
I turn in again
I can’t navigate this maze
Lost in my safe place
Through silver meadows
With moths and bats and spiders
Dance in the moonlight
Keep it trapped in tight
And locked away from daylight
This corrosive blight
Infinite choices
Flow into my river of
Possibility
The years leave their mark
In your scarred and pitted bark
Our lives just a spark
Fragile petal frills
Entice bees and bugs to the
Anther and stamen
Orange blood will flow
Falling from my broken bones
I rest down below
Parallel lives groan
Untwined, linear, alone
Each head in a phone
In a human swarm
Though I make a song and dance
I’m invisible
Cerulean clouds
Sucked into the setting sun
Meet the moody moon
On a bold ascent
Spreading their sweet heady scent
A heavenly bent
Take a nightingale
Slow her song down like a snail
It sounds like a whale
Though they look the same
Each one’s a little different
And there is no best
Time escapes again
Taking with it plans and schemes
Let’s resort to dreams
Don’t give up on fun
Soaking up the evening sun
Take it as it comes
Tangled in the weeds
Twist, turn and squirm to be free
Love caught up with me
Hawthorn turning pink
In the dizzying dry heat
We are warm at last
From a jagged hedge
Knotted and skeletal edge
Just an empty sketch
Weaving my own way
To reach for the stars above
Always falling short
Though we’re home again
Wonder what’s round the next bend
Never reach the end
