A new day a new haiku
Deadly parasites
Draining, dredging, destroying
Our own dying host
On the very edge
At the top of everything
We’re still clinging on
The hushed wind twisting
Through the vast empty stillness
Sad cicadas sing
What do you call home?
The place that you go back to?
The place you feel safe?
How long will we stand
Gazing into the sunset?
Never long enough
Beauty in order
Straight lines and simplicity
Yet more in chaos
Wild flowers don’t grow
Inside the confines of lines
We are on the edge
From the detritus
Years upon years of rubbish
Shelter will arise
The end of the road
Is the best place to plan out
The next adventure
Ledges pledge edges
A sure footed mountain goat
Passing past passes
Drift through the Highlands
Black headed terns returning
To the ocean waves
Downy clouds lie low
Along this murky green glen
The rain has set in
Towering mountains
As far as the eye can see
Now floating away
Starry sparks arise
Flaming furnace fire flies
At the day’s last sigh
As the fallen sun
Sets a broken sky alight
So my heart ignites
At the water’s edge
Between grey sea and gilt sky
Verges vegetate
Around foggy lochs
Through misty mountain passes
We wend our way north
Hazy twilight glow
Dew settles on the meadow
They never grow old
Dry dust drips downward
Tyre treads track into blue grooves
Roll until its smooth
Early morning breeze
Plays lightly on the surface
Jump into the pool
In the green meadow
Wild grasses and flowers grow
Wait for us mow
A fork in the tracks
Do I take the easy path
Or the way that winds?
A small silver chink
Opens up rusty old minds
To a clearer view
For times of good cheer
Bend hairy ears that can’t hear
To whiskey and beer
