A new day a new haiku
Deep below the groundThe sap is starting to riseThere is always hope
You were here before
My parents were born; you will
Outlive my children
Hawthorn pens me in
Reaching for a brighter day
I fall back again
If you think that it’s
Just around the next corner
You’ll walk forever
Even reflected
The sunset burns with beauty
Exceeding our own
Penumbral Oak trees
Darken degraded footpaths
Tie me up in knots
Turn to face the sun
Brisk evening light glows stronger
Longer shadows grow
What’s left to explore?
The inner faults of my mind
Heading ever West
Under the shadow
Of ineffable beauty
What can I offer?
Failure, the father
Of success. Yet how often
Failure is childless
The sun’s daily death
A reminder of our own
Yet full of beauty
Betwixt sky and earth
The glory of last year fades
Next year’s start to grow
This light has travelled
Ninety three million miles
In just eight minutes
Washed out and washed up
Carried downstream to the sea
Where I becomes we
I twist and I turn
Too soon I will burn, you will
Rise from the ashes
In thy rheumy eyes
Fierce, wild, fearless explorer
Another life hides
You may never know
Which journey will be your last
Brambles overgrow
Wherever you are
Look up at the stars and sun
Ever present hope
How long will it take
For my bones to break and turn
From dust into light?
An oppressive gloom
Settles over the last year
Days start to lengthen
When I’m out of doors
Even in damp drizzly rain
I can taste freedom
We can see further
From someone else’s viewpoint
Don’t just stay inside
Growing together
As trees are to the forest
So are we to joy
How soon we are gone
And what could we leave behind
That will out live us?
