A new day a new haiku
Through the still clear air
Fluttering down to the ground
Leaves and Lapwings
I lost myself there
Locked between distant mountains
In another world
Sharp rocky fragments
Mounting up into the cairn
A fork in the road
If I recycle
Old ideas into new ones
Do they shine or rust?
Curled leaves turn over
Returning to solid ground
Yet these hills remain
Every door is closed
And each road is a dead end
I burnt my bridges
Resting in the ditch
And though I know it’s futile
Reaching for the stars
Creep between hedges
Along the woodland edge and
Through wild corridors
Let’s launch a canoe
And paddle into the blue
Swallowed by the view
Cover me with clouds
Let my mind be empty now
Here I will lay down
Uncoiled fraying strings
Twisting broken melodies
Try to lose myself
A sharp sunlight slice
Splinters slate slivers and shale
A shaft splice shatters
Rooted to this earth
I can’t change the wind and rain
I can change my mind
Silently she swoops
I dive for the hedge cover
Now the hunt is on
Launch me out into
The clear still waveless waters
May my mind make peace
The sun hanging low
Gives a golden autumn glow
To the grindylow
The blue space between
The clear sky and the water
Where I want to be
Washed out, worn away
All my ideas turn to grey
Returning to clay
Can’t sing like these birds
Don’t shine in the evening sun
Should I drift away?
Leaves in the gutter
Grey water torrents and drains
Washing me away
Autumn in gold leaf
Will I ever shine so bright?
Set my boat alight
Temptingly tasty
Bright and shiny like candy
Deceitful, deadly
Daylight turning grey
Camouflaged in the eyes of
Empty passers-by
A sunny surprise
Warmer autumn days arise
Shining in my eyes
