A new day a new haiku
I am still walking
But do I want to arrive?
Not out of the woods
While we were rushing
We missed the plot twists and turns
Let’s take the slow ways
My autumn son shines
Overflows with hope and joy
These days are too short
By the drainage ditch
We hunt for fry and minnow
Our river has gone
Do we really learn
Or just change our opinions?
Am I always wrong?
Why do I look for
External validation
In the wrong places?
Sun soaked sycamoreSoftly sharing secrets seenSimply standing still
Mushrooms cast a spell
But the real magic happens
Underneath the ground
Our wellies slipping
And berries we’ve been licking
Bramblers are tripping
Here I sought shelter
Blissfully ignorant of
Poison in your wings
Below the surface
Hidden from these prying eyes
Perennial pride
But we didn’t know
All of the things that we had
Until they were gone
Bright leaves caught alight
By autumn’s flickering flames
How quickly they fade
If we are children
We are only reflections
Of somebody else
Though the river bends
It wanders and winds and wends
But it never ends
A fallen hunter
Silently she spreads her wings
Are you still asleep?
Another day gone
Slipping through my fat fingers
Evening sun though leaves
This flower stands still
Between the hedge and meadow
We hurry between
A final flourish
Tomorrow winter will wash
Everything away
If we lived in trees
We wouldn’t cut them all down
Don’t give up, be kind
We built this tree nest
Using only sticks and string
Total cost, zero
We could make our homes
In the arms of our brothers’
Leafy canopy
Those secret creatures
Hidden in the undergrowth
Seen only in death
From cold talons’ grasp
A breakfast interrupted
The forest floor burns
