A new day a new haiku
Down a muddy path
To the river, to the sea
Black clouds follow me
When will these clouds lift?
And will this rain ever cease?
Summer seems so far
Crouch in nooks and crooks
Making tracks through tree top maps
Arborous networks
The last ray of light
Leaves on a deserted shore
Heavy eyelids close
Make me free to make
Freedom to do it my way
Free to make mistakes
Mute and overlooked
Wilfully misunderstood
Tooth and hand and foot
Can I hide behind
Between the corners and lines
On the darker side
The first signs of hope
Spring so slow we can’t trust them
Until we see growth
Days draped in drear grey
Decaying into deep mire
Are they all the same?
Ever on we roam
With nowhere to call our own
Everywhere is home
I know every log
I can tell you their stories
And where they come from
Long low winter sun
Draw me out of the black dirt
To chime in the spring
Eastern star shines bright
I’m resolving into night
Tomorrow I might
Look through the forest
Let twisted thoughts untangle
Set your spirit free
Giving up the fight
I’m dissolving into light
Day turns into night
Caught in a thicket
Antlers crowned with tangled briar
The final downfall
The frozen wind goes
From my head down to my toes
To my very bones
The course is settled
The highway road is well worn
Sun always rises
There must be gold in
Such a magnificent tree
Chop it down to see
From leaves of last year
Again the snowdrops appear
Spring is drawing near
A shaft of sunlight
In this most murky of months
Might just see me through
Though the cold wind howls
Ever onwards we will run
Towards the warm sun
Living in the clouds
Is much duller than it sounds
A sombre surround
Frozen lake reborn
Frost coated reeds stand forlorn
Perpetual dawn
