A new day a new haiku
As heavy clouds droop
Over the last falling sun
Sleep slowly sweeps in
Above grey green waves
Fall into a question mark
Fall into the sea
Broken sunlight streams
In the gaps between the trees
There must be shadows
Asleep in the woods
Squirrel whiskers twitching while
Muffled hedgehogs curl
If I could stretch up
Reach out long gnarled tree fingers
Could I catch the moon?
Grey rain clouds diffuse
The last light of the evening
My heart skips a beat
What hides behind mist?
Who lurks in the looming copse?
Why is the sun cold?
When will new life spring
Rising up from long darkness?
We wait still in hope
Dead leaves settle down
Leave me in the dirty ground
Who wants to be found?
The line of pine trees
Dividing the horizon
A rend in the clouds
Another sunrise
Graces this duck pond with dreams
From another world
Across the valley
Another world opens up
Carry me away
Am I still afraid
To try my best? Or am I
Just not good enough?
When the earth is grey
Summer days have passed away
The sun lights the way
The in-between heath
Adders and natterjack toads
Hide in secret homes
Sunlight and shadow
Questions without an answer
Empty and hollow
Though you are older
You will see more years than I
Mine simply fly by
Half a silver moon
Hanging in the cinder gloom
Falling back down soon
Day silently breaks
The surface of the duck pond
Set your sights beyond
Strangers cross our hedge
We rise up from the dark limbs
Carved from the darkness
Where earth and sky meet
A hazy gloom descending
Spectres rising up
Square words in round ears
I cannot navigate this
Mutable cloud maze
Kindle another flame
Catch the corner, watch it grow
Fire drives away dark
Darkness creeps in
Turning my thoughts against me
Driving light away
