A new day a new haiku
Send me over dirt
Sailing through willow and birch
Back down to the land
A path through the wheat
Lines laid out by many feet
A desirous beat
Peering through the hedge
The ways that I carried you
Now you run ahead
Apple and cherry
From orchard into berry
Cider and perry
I flew round the world
To watch the cherry blossom
When on my doorstep
Ripples ride and jump
Gurgling between alder stumps
Smoothing out the bumps
The silver sickle
Calls meadows back to my
Surely the earth shines
Every open bloom
Welcomes hungry visitors
In exchange for fruit
Springtime soon gives way
Summer marches into May
Savour every day
Blossom’s sweet promise
Held in a perfect moment
Inevitable
Despite the howling
Deep within the dark forest
Buried hope still lies
Between wood and tree
Between roaring waves and sea
Between eye and me
I can’t see the wood
I can’t even see the trees
Right in front of me
Celandine sunshine
Enshrines divine alpine vines
Lifelines intertwine
Silent scavenger
Picking up discarded scraps
Scraping out a life
Weave between the trees
Sail across deep blue bell seas
Dirt upon our knees
We have dug each hole
Cleaned and polished every bowl
Let the good times roll
Dusky cherry blooms
Imbibing ultraviolet
Light headed we swoon
With shovel and spade
Polish the earth into shape
Groom with broom and rake
Cold winds sweep over
Contour steep forestry floor
Can we sleep some more?
The clear light of spring
Brings life to the forest floor
Before leaves unfold
A precipice perch
Dangling over the ocean
Time left us behind
Keep reaching upwards
We don’t want to reach the light
Though we always try
Years slowly decay
Turn houses into hummus
And roads into ruts
