A new day a new haiku
Stare into the pool
Soaking in your own beauty
As it slowly fades
Only now I know
Lift me up from down below
I will take it slow
Heather crowded out
By brambling bracken and birch
Dark history exhumed
Out of the darkness
The bleak silence of winter
New life emerges
Broken limbs hang low
Drag me down below, I drown
Searching for my crown
A fleeting flourish
White sprays pierced on sharp thorny stems
What will this year bring?
I followed your tracks
Back to the underground sett
But all was quiet
A fallen hero
In death and decay, you are
Still home to thousands
If I was tangled
Twisted around the tree tops
Would you look for me?
Memories of summer
Reduced to smoke and ashes
So new ones can grow
Hazel, my old friend
Although I have cut you down
You will live longer
Storm clouds roll on by
Catkins stream into the breeze
They whisper of spring
Water boatmen dart
Across the ripples and gusts
We left in our wake
Twisted branches stoop
Reaching out across the lake
In idle chit chat
And never give up
At the end of the tunnel
There is still a light
Torrents gush and spew
Roaring rushing rising up
From the mountain depths
Rusty lichen points
Towards the shady cold North
An ancient compass
In the black forest
In your never ending eyes
Darker than the night
Slowly we amble
Meander the river banks
Wander in wonder
The long sun lies down
Low across the fading dale
And calling us home
Nature recycles
Leaves and wood into fungi
Death into beauty
Between capped mineshafts
We crept down the eerie dale
Our captors pursue
Dragged under water
Into seething froth and foam
Sinking in regret
Lashed by wind and rain
Across the cold lonely peaks
The doors all bolted
