A new day a new haiku
Fragile petals shake
Gentle breeze is all it takes
To share this heartache
Is this one way glass
A window to the past, or
A future mirror?
Washed up on the shore
No good for nothing no more
Wage another war
Tides slip out to sea
Unearthing this estuary
Leaving me empty
Now we’re face to face
Unblinking eye full of grace
An unending chase
Flit from tree to tree
Chit-chattering happily
You don’t know you’re free
I would burn it down
Raise the level to the ground
The simple compounds
As the heat rises
Questions sear across my eyes
Am I blindsided?
Bow my heavy head
To the up with which I’m fed
A heart filled with lead
With cackle and glee
Weave a forest we can’t see
For all these still trees
Sun, soil and water
Is all anyone will need
To live their best life
The tallest mountain
Becomes a tiny pebble
With time or distance
Days running like rain
From the mountain to the sea
Writing new stories
Over my shoulder
The reddish hues of sunrise
Rewriting the past
Another summer
Slowly begins to emerge
Let gratitude reign
We’ve been left behind
Painted out of the background
Artificial leaves
Lean into the sun
Now the days and nights are one
New life has begun
When these dark mountains
Were covered in thick forest
This view was for birds
Your head’s in the clouds
Sometimes you have to descend
To reach the next peak
The buzzard’s shadow
Winking at the rising sun
A crooked disguise
When I reach the peak
I will search and seek, cloud lights
A path for my feet
Duck and dock and dive
Upturn and glide, sweep and slide
Flick and flock the skies
Care motivates change
Thoughts of change give birth to hope
Hope breeds frustration
What strange stories lie
Underneath these scattered stones
Splintered spires succumb
