Silver moonlight spilt
Across the gloomy garden
While the shadows lurk
A new day a new haiku
Silver moonlight spilt
Across the gloomy garden
While the shadows lurk
Gentle trees stand still
In woods where our fathers worked
Now left untended
Once upon a time
Happily ever after
All’s well that ends well
Although hard rain falls
Running down silver shingles
Come winter we’re dry
As the days stretch out
The long light nights of summer
When do the birds sleep?
Scratching the surface
What seemed so full of promise
Was just empty words
Perpetual dusk
An industrial wasteland
Nothing left to lose
Cower in dark holes
Staring at flickering lights
Until the sun rise
Lazy river days
Gently we paddle downstream
While the year floats on
A fallen treehouse
An abandoned rope ladder
And this too will pass
Compared to the stars
Separated by light years
You’re right next to me
Long warm evening light
Fragile memories of summer
Once I was a child
Frayed around the edges
Like butter on too much bread
Held on by fine threads
Heavily I fell
My limbs broken my crown smashed
Perfect fire wood
Window panes rattle
My nerves torn to paper shreds
Standing on the edge
The years roll onward
As I become my father
Inexorably
Sleeping after noon
The city slumbers soundly
While we wonder on
Rising with the sun
Our next adventure awaits
Are you ready yet?
A empty fortress
Crumbles under every tide
The sea always wins
My desire for
External validation
Is needy and sad
Old stone walls crumble
Built before our parent’s days
They will outlive us
Half a moon away
Dance lightly over black waves
Am I moved by tides?
Sand blasted on shore
We shelter under the rocks
As the tide comes in
Thirsty sun sponges
Dried and cracked after winter
Soaking up photons
