      1. 17 syllables is too many in English, as Japanese sound units are not comparable. Essentially you’re trying to capture the moment. The links I shared offer a slightly different point of view, the second one is better.

      2. Thanks Joanne. I have read about the different ways of doing haiku in English. I find the seventeen syllable constraint an interesting challenge, which is why I have decided to follow this English tradition, even though its not after the original Japanese intention. Constraints conceive creativity.
