A new day a new haiku
On millions of straws
Even the heaviest head
Can rest safe and sound
Burst into the day
In a flash of red and gold
Pheasant to the flames
Before the leaves come
We will soak up the daylight
Waiting for the sun
Flow from sea to shore
Rise in clouds from where we came
Fall back down again
Blink and it appears
Open up in the warm sun
At last spring is here
The snow has melted
Dropping from bending branches
To the forest floor
Cover me with white
Sheets conceal every blemish
Absence creates beauty
Through the blackest night
Turn our backs on the darkness
Let the fire burn bright
Follow the oak trees
Marching to the horizon
Where spring’s secrets lie
I awoke in white
A fresh slate, clean my mistakes
Look towards the light
Snowflakes twirl and glide
A graceful gentle descent
How is water white?
Underneath the snow
Stamen, stem, leaf and anther
Curled up in tight bulbs
If the snow should melt
The rivers awayward run
When I’m lost, I’ve won
A coiled spring unfolds
Stretches out in slow motion
Self realization
Dusk shrugs my shoulders
And hugs the rugged hillside
We trudge home again
Lift your drooping head
To the brighter horizon
I will meet you there
Follow fading clouds
To escape greater darkness
Falling into me
In a flush of white
Following the flower trail
To where I came from
A pair of Mallards
Weave and work a winding way
Through shedding rushes
I lost my way here
Hide beneath a fallen tree
Washed away like leaves
A harsh hard winter
Fading trees to leaves to mud
A clean skeleton
Blossom breathes new hope
Into my thorny black mood
Another spring comes
Bare trees without leaves
Fingers freeze in the chill breeze
Runny noses sneeze
Up the mountain side
Where my fears and troubles hide
Slip, slide, steady, stride
