A new day a new haiku
Purple birch buds shine
Light on a distant mountain
Just a bit further
Last year’s yellow sedge
Frames old pines and blackthorn hedge
I let my world shrink
In the dark shadow
Of the looming mountain side
Find a place to hide
A shaft of sunlight
A mountain turned inside out
A thought, a challenge
In the mist and snow
At the edge of the abyss
Inescapable
Across these harsh slopes
Beaten and battered by gales
Hunched, we hunker down
I lost myself there
Locked between distant mountains
In another world
Sharp rocky fragments
Mounting up into the cairn
A fork in the road
A sharp sunlight slice
Splinters slate slivers and shale
A shaft splice shatters
Ledges pledge edges
A sure footed mountain goat
Passing past passes
