A new day a new haiku
As the summer leaves
Break down into next year’s soil
We feed on decay
Can I build this wall
Faster than it tumbles down?
Shifting sandcastles
Down in dark damp dirt
The mycorrhizae network
A secret magic
Creepily we crawl
Betwixt decaying leaf mould
Our shells on our backs
Every possession
Entraps you and enslaves you
You don’t need this stuff
Deep down in the pit
My yearning churning stomach
I know I’m toxic
I feed on your death
And turn it into poison
A love parasite
Though we will decay
Old bones beneath us still lay
Today is our day
