A new day a new haiku
As the days shorten.
The shadows stretch out longer
Underneath my eyes
Fractured frozen frost
Covering every surface
Why are they so white?
Subtle spirits hide
In the space between the trees
Broken labyrinths
Frost bites my fingers
I hold tighter to the days
While any remain
I’m a bumble bee
I’m a flower, I’m a tree
I’m all that has been
Frost nibbles the dirt
Limbs stripped by prevailing winds
Winter lays all bare
Longer lines lay low
Dew drops down where branches froze
Yet I am still here
Cling to this moment
Before it all falls apart
Melt my frozen heart
In gloomy shadows
That the light never reaches
That’s where Jack frost hides
Between blue blankets
Frost settles in for the night
Can I hibernate?
Just cross the water
A whole other universe
Alas I cannot
So what are regrets?
Holding on to things that hurt?
Lessons still unlearnt?
A foggy cold fret
Bitten by this fierce snell wind
My fair jeelit feet
Your pure morning light
Spins and weaves a golden web
Through the furry frost
To this English Oak
Older than fields and houses
Our lives look so short
Brittle bracken breaks
Trampled in the crisp morning
We follow the glare
Today’s not over
Before the next has begun
Merging into one
Soft silver shafts shine
Scattering sunlight sideways
Shadows slowly stretch
Frost bites hard and sharp
The relentless every day
The fields, an escape
Fields frozen in time
But who will be here next year?
Melt into history
How do cold fingers
Creep and crawl so cautiously
Into the thin air?
Just for a moment
Everything froze like a stone
Now we are melting
Frost bitten grasses
Steaming in the winter sun
I too wait my turn
Across frosty fields
Untold stories will unfold
Turning a new leaf
