A new day a new haiku
Hungry earthworms wait
For the autumn feast to fall
In loamy dirtness
Soaring in dark skies
Murmur as the starling flies
Hear my distant cries
The light has faded
The leaves give up their glory
To find a new life
Yellowing birch seeds
Tumble back down to the ground
Leaving me behind
As we fade away
From green to golden to grey
The rest hibernate
Leaves from autumn trees
Drift down to the sun baked ground
The days simply fly
Soaring golden leaves
Falling from the olden trees
Calling the cold breeze
Kestrel horizon
Bleak shadows, empty inside
I am not enough
Dry ice and low sun
Stir these swirling leaves to make
The perfect autumn
Autumn in gold leaf
Will I ever shine so bright?
Set my boat alight
A sunny surprise
Warmer autumn days arise
Shining in my eyes
As we wind our way
Through ever changing seasons
Years are made of days
Colour drains from leaves
Dripping into the gutter
Winter washed and ret
If you keep moving
You can stay out in the cold
Indefinitely
Float away downstream
Carried in gentle currents
My eyelids closing
Darkened tributaries
Glimmer, glisten in gold leaf
Desperately clinging
A grey squirrel leaps
Coneys scurry to their holes
As a breeze picks up
My autumn son shines
Overflows with hope and joy
These days are too short
Why do I look for
External validation
In the wrong places?
Bright leaves caught alight
By autumn’s flickering flames
How quickly they fade
As a new leaf turns
My year to obscurity
Together we’ll fade
Damp drab dreary days
Scuffling through rusty leaves
Searching for wild life
Wind strips branches bare
Waiting for my time to come
Only five leaves left
Autumn turns to rust
Fresh blood running down my leg
Hold it together
