A new day a new haiku
You’re so far away
Far beyond where I can reach
I accept defeat
Early mist is draped
On slowly yellowing flax
Too fragile to catch
We’ll get there somehow
The space between then and now
Push on with this plough
In secret corners
The fallen leaves gathering
Muster thick as thieves
This labyrinth life
Every bend takes us further
The end out of sight
Some things never change
Everything won’t be ok
See what’s bright today
Ghosts still ride these tracks
Journey to places now lost
While I plod onward
Holly silhouettes
Line gilded tunnel splinters
I turn back to dusk
My sight lines obscured
By convoluted detours
Make my vision pure
Words never change minds
Change is a function of time
And strong tribal ties
Come to the water
It’s running fresh, clean and clear
So why won’t you drink?
Ash clings to her crown
But it’s Autumn in my heart
Grimly fading now
Twist and turn and bend
Until we’re tangled and tend
Intertwined with friends
Autumn colours fade
Clocks go back, tired and grey
Ever shorter days
Collapse my illusion
Replace this frail delusion
What’s left is what’s real
Who was here before?
Watching light transform the land
Who will come after?
Steady plough reveals
Rolling over rambling fields
Secrets long concealed
Journeys run like veins
Through these brown fields and green ways
You can’t stop the change
Summer’s fallen crown
Lies in state, a gutter fate
Until spring comes round
At the edge of time
I can’t see beyond my pride
In my clouded mind
Over sticks and stones
Up hills steep, down gulleys deep
And flying, leap holes
Cover me with shrouds
Brambles keep us safe from harm
A haven for crowds
Maybe I’m a toad
Trying to be a toadstool
Mirror on the wall
Slips through my fingers
Wasted, borrowed, stolen, free
Waiting for no one
