A new day a new haiku
Can’t push me away
If I have already left
Double down the dregs
Grass grows short and tall
Leaning with the wind and falls
Out of my control
I was a ripple
Now I roll toward the shore
Carrying your weight
Algae clings bravely
To any hope of solace
So hold on to life
Fluttering ripples
Denigrate the unabashed
Surface of the lake
How many others
Have let the sun melt their chains
Among this meadow
Rolling over reeds
Minnows dart while brown trout feed
The river our need
I lost direction
An echo of inflection
A pale reflection
Reeling in the dark
Hunting for a neutron start
Never ending quarks
We’re still floating on
Between wispy willows, for
River and ever
Swaddle me in an
Invisibility cloak
Am I still a child?
I wish I weren’t pink
And my face turned to the sun
We aren’t all daisies
The half light hangs low
Climb up every blade of grass
Dusk lays me down slow
Catch the light and bend
Into twisted hazel curls
Catkins wrapped up tight
The sweet glow of hope
Blushing with promise and pride
Tickled by summer
Try to be myself
Can’t be anybody else
Put that on the shelf
Just keep your head down
Keep following your own road
You’re already there
Does a river flow
Or watch the water run by?
This bed never sleeps
Though worms may eat me
Flesh and bone won’t be alone
With their company
Gannets swarm the face
Guillemots balance in place
Between kittiwakes
Hang on to the cliff
Escape predators and lift
Purposeful eyes up
I’m just an old ship,
Ever since I’m cut adrift
Heading for the cliff
Flowers bloom and fade
Before they have the time to
Wonder who they are
The spring is over
Flowers succumb. Loose these chains
Summer has begun
