A new day a new haiku
Last year’s yellow sedge
Frames old pines and blackthorn hedge
I let my world shrink
Water ebbs and flows
From cloud, to mountain, to sea
We close all the gaps
Inside the black cliffs
Rumbled tumbled thundered rolled
By the sundering sea
I hear the mountains
Calling across the valley
To which should I heed?
How slow can I go
And still escape entropy?
How high is the moon?
Each start is an end
Everything’s a beginning
Where the willow bends
Slowly but surely
Spring inevitably springs
I always miss it
Spring is never late
It comes just as it’s ready
And it always comes
A giant puzzle
Where you make your own pieces
And nothing quite fits
Just round the corner
Rising from the garden waste
Secret hiding place
I’m the earth and dirt
I’m the sun and I’m the moon
I’m the new sprung grass
Somehow we survive
The time is now, we are here
And we are alive
Imposing spires loom
Casting gloomy grey shadows
Across woods and fields
Cold evening light flows
Though my ears, down to my toes
Wallow in my woes
Curled up in new buds
The autumn crop of apples
Already forming
Here are taller trees
We’re reaching ever higher
Swaying in the breeze
Lost in heady scent
I forgot where I had come from
And from where I went
Field, hill and forest
Stretch out into the distance
Ever on I seek
On millions of straws
Even the heaviest head
Can rest safe and sound
Burst into the day
In a flash of red and gold
Pheasant to the flames
Before the leaves come
We will soak up the daylight
Waiting for the sun
Flow from sea to shore
Rise in clouds from where we came
Fall back down again
Blink and it appears
Open up in the warm sun
At last spring is here
The snow has melted
Dropping from bending branches
To the forest floor
