A new day a new haiku
Goodbye to July
I never understood you
Though I often tried
A prickly thistle
Bitter and hard to swallow
Unapproachable
All life is entwined
In tangled threads, woven webs
And intricate nets
Each day is a gift
That we don’t appreciate
Until it has gone
I survived the mow
Now this field is mine alone
’til I grow new wings
Pearly petals shine
Reflecting the sinking sun
I must try again
The final tile laid
A crown against diving rain
Long awaited day
Hope is a flower
How soon it withers away
For another year
Seeds set at sunset
Ripple through ripening grasses
Obey the scythe’s blade
Beneath purple blooms
Downy seeds burst from each head
Next year’s problems spread
So let the evening
Carry you back through the years
The pattern unfolds
Now the clouds have cleared
Let the sun work it’s magic
Turning green to gold
On the verge of life
Where the outcasts and strays thrive
I will build my den
Reeling in your wake
Watch the dust settle and shake
You slam on the brakes
Floating in a flood
A green sea, a poppy lake
Swim until I wake
Mixing murky mist
With damp dew dust descending
Wander where we wish
Follow the hedges
Unending bramble rambles
Tame my straighter course
Ivy rise again
How many years will it take
To destroy this bridge?
Already seeds set
Heralding summer’s demise
Autumn imminent?
Surface tension gives
Life to those inbetweeners
Who need both to thrive
I lift up my head
Put my hands behind my back
And swallow sunshine
Rising from fresh rain
Summer mists keep us shining
Radiant and bright
Peer over the edge
Wonder at what you find there
As you open up
In each angled ray
A path to reach the next day
Gently down we lay
