A new day a new haiku
A windswept tundra
An opening in the sky
A fresh perspective
The road doesn’t move
Yet it is ever changing
There is no now here
Did life pass us by
Run away from us again
While we were waiting?
Steadily she glides
Twists and turns in the thermals
A kite flying high
Sunset particles
Unfurl across still waters
Bind us together
In each dew droplet
The light of a thousand suns
Rolled across the sky
Distant dying sun
We bask in your gold glory
Your old light, still warm
Treacherous thunder
Turns toward turbulent tides
Threatening torrents
Amazing jungle
Battle baffling brambles
A long way from home
To this English Oak
Older than fields and houses
Our lives look so short
I’ve scattered these seeds
Sown them down in the damp ground
Will any awake?
Brittle bracken breaks
Trampled in the crisp morning
We follow the glare
Today’s not over
Before the next has begun
Merging into one
Bird song in the sun
Reminds me what spring will bring
Read between the lines
Soft silver shafts shine
Scattering sunlight sideways
Shadows slowly stretch
Soft blue horizon
Cover us in teal layers
We know where we are
Frost bites hard and sharp
The relentless every day
The fields, an escape
Hang in the darkness
Fading in the cold night air
To obscurity
How long will I roam
In the purple Midland hills
Til I find a home
Fields frozen in time
But who will be here next year?
Melt into history
How do cold fingers
Creep and crawl so cautiously
Into the thin air?
Seasons cycle on
Bound in their ancient routines
Why ever can’t I?
When your last sun sets
What will you have left behind?
And where will you go?
As our lives lengthen
Such complex threads intertwine
Embrace the chaos
