In the dawn chorus
At the first light of the day
In a sleepy daze
In the dawn chorus
At the first light of the day
In a sleepy daze
Inside Merlin’s cave
Under an ancient ruin
Where two oceans meet
Rolling white horses
Dash themselves against the rocks
Dissolve in the spray
Furry willow buds
Prick up at the dawn chorus
Silky rabbit ears
Though his white fingers
Strangle the new Daffodils
Frost won’t defeat spring
Shedding my old skins
Pack my life into boxes
Setting myself free
Halfway up the hill
Look across the canopy
The trees are brothers
Another day ends
I wonder what I achieved
Only this haiku
Knee deep in cold mud
We tramp across empty fields
To the hanging tree
Blossom blooming from
The overgrown undergrowth
Seasons steady march
