From my clifftop perch
Scanning the terrain below
For a sign of life
From my clifftop perch
Scanning the terrain below
For a sign of life
Hollyhocks bend yet
Butterflies dance around them
While their wings still beat
Hot sparks burn bright trails
Like the stars shooting above
And a child’s joy
Streams of golden air
Edging dry seed heads in light
We fade in darkness
Tell your own story
With what you find around you
Tell it for yourself
Mellow August light
Lying low on the common
Nestle down sunshine
Though my star wanders
Explores celestial realms
I am not yet lost
Yesterday is gone
A place we can’t go back to
Water flows downstream
In distant twilight
A tawny owl hunting low
Should have stayed at home
Watching distant hills
From the darkness of my will
I wander them still
